Here's the good news

Thank god. Why was everyone saying the Defektors were broken up in the first place, anyway? I want them to come to Victoria so bad. I would even break out of my self-imposed show-booking hiatus to put on a show for Defektors, if they would only take me up on the offer.

Speaking of bands that Jeremiah Haywood plays in, Twin Crystals were great last night. Packed--like kippers in a wartime tin can--in Duncan's bunker of a basement (bodies floor to ceiling/ little to no head room/ air heavy with animal oils--sweat), most people could barely see a thing, but it was still pretttttttty good. Listened to them again while standing in line at Lucky Bar two hours later. According to Johnnie Regalado, in a spectacular climax, the Crystal's gear broke on stage, they tried to fix it while finishing the song, and then fucked it all, announcing they were "done" and leaving the stage. I have been listening to the record all morning.

Uh, oh yeah, go to this...

It's foggy today

...which means fall has finally arrived. I am very sad to see a wonderful summer come to an end, but I'm beginning to get excited about scarves, seriously hitting the books, and traveling to New York and Toronto.

Passing on a neat live set/ interview with Heavenly from back in the day. This link is c/o the Indiepop List. If tu hablas español, you're in luck, because this radio show aired on a Spanish station. My favourite moment occurs at the beginning of the interview, when you can hear someone light up.

Playlist 09/09/20

I gave away two Rifflandia passes today. Exciting times, for those listeners who won and for those who tried to win. I billed my skill-testing question as "local rock trivia": "What two local labels have Colourbook released music on?" Poorly worded, but the sentiment was there. I learned of some record labels I never knew existed, that's for sure. Most people got at least one label correct. In case you didn't know, the correct answer was "Aaargh! and Old Life". Stay tuned to C-Fuv, because other programmers have Rifflandia give-aways, too.

Dreamboat live on G & L next Sunday! (uh... or next Sunday, or the one after...)

[click photo]

Dreamboat will be playing a live acoustic studio session on Gumdrops & Lollipops at some point in the near future. I don't know how near. Aaron couldn't come in today. Catch him as Dreamboat or in Colourbook during Rifflandz.
