shows shows show me yours

  1. Wednesday April 29th
Vivian Girls, Abe Vigoda, White Lung
    Biltmore Cabaret, Vancouver BC
    Doors at 8pm

Comments: OMG! Tell your boss to stuff it, 'cause you're going to this. Wear cut-offs. Summerrrrrrr.

  2. Saturday May 9th
    Petroleum By-Products, The New Krime
    Brickyard Pizzaz, Victoria BC
    10pm

Comments: Emergency Room band #2 to make it over. Who is putting this show on? Who is New Krime, anyway?

  3. Friday June 5th
    Camera Obscura
    Commodore Ballroom, Vancouver BC
    8pm

Comments: I probably won't attend this show, although I am tempted to make a weekend out of this show and the Jens Lekman one listed next. I have heart the Obscuras are awful live, and I don't want to have that experience of them if indeed they are so.

  4. Sunday June 7th
    Jens Lekman, Tig Notaro
    Richards on Richards, Vancouver BC
    8pm

Comments: I like the shows Sealed With a Kiss brings into BC, but I resent ticketmaster with their $5.50 "service charge". That said, tickets to this show are still reasonable, and totally worth it. Tig Notaro, she's a comedian. Jens Lekman is my favourite. Maybe I'll see him at both Seattle shows as well. Probably not, but doing something crazy like that is not beyond my level of Jens fandom.

  5. Wednesday June 13th
    White Lung
    Brickyard Pizzaz again
    7pm

Comments: Who are you, mystery Brickyard show-booker?

Interview with Calvin Johnson, Jan. 2000

For one of my final class projects, I interviewed the Portland poet Tom Blood. Yes, one day I will edit the entire 50-minute interview into a show fit for broadcasting, but until then you (and Blood) will just have to wait. When I received my graded paper at the end of term, I found the following comment from my instructor:
Remind me to tell you about my Calvin Johnson interview some time.
Curious? I was. Here's the article, from the January 28, 2000 issue of the Ubyssey.
