Gumdrops & Lollipops Goes FUNDRIVE Today!

A friendly reminder to call
250-721-8700
during Gumdrops & Lollipops today (2-3:30pm PST, of course), as I am soliciting your donations!

CFUV needs money to cover equipment repair and updating costs. We have only 1 pair of headphones in the on-air booth right now--that's pretty bad. We also need a new transmitter, and once we get that transmitter, we need to hire an expensive radio engineer to help us look into the possibility of expanding our signal. This is all good for you, because it means we can continue to deliver radio to the best of our capabilities!

For donations of $25 or more, you can choose to take a trip to the "Small Room of Big Prizes". I can assure you there are some great CDs, t-shirts (including an awesome Mudhoney one!), and DVDs in there. There are also some prizes supplied by local businesses like Russell Books, Ditch Records, Legends Comics and Books, and Smoking Lily. Some of that stuff is available to people who donate under $25, which means it's getting snapped up pretty quickly (so you'd better stop by the station soon).

Donate to CFUV c/o Gumdrops & Lollipops! It will make you feel really good...

SF Popfest lineup announced!!!

OMG - the return of SF Popfest! And they're not holding back either. I've boldfaced the bands I'm particularly excited about. I don't know if I'll be able to go... But I would really like to. In any case, it means that SKWBN and My Teenage Stride will be on this continent and on this coast, which can only mean good things in my books. Maybe I will try to get them to play up here!
As the more eagle-eyed of you have already noticed, The Rickshaw Stop has posted listings for the SF Popfest 2009 - it's true, we're excited about reviving the popfest tradition in the SF Bay Area, and we thought we'd post the lineup (so far) to the list as well.

The Popfest runs from May 21-24 and is at The Rickshaw Stop, Annie's Social Club and the Café du Nord. We're just posting the Rickshaw lineups right now, but stay tuned for Friday and Sunday lineups soon!

Thursday, May 21:

Suburban Kids with Biblical Names
Oh No Oh My
Pelle Carlberg
Birds of California (the band formerly known as Lunchbox)

Saturday, May 23:

Tullycraft
My Teenage Stride
Northern Portrait
The Magic Bullets
The Smittens

More information can be found on our website: http://www.sfpopfest.com/

Tickets will be available soon, check our site or the venue's site: http://www.rickshawstop.com/

Hope to see you there,

Andrew

Where was this list when I was in HK?!

I tried to find a record store where I could purchase some Pancakes/ My Little Airport/ other Chinese pop CDs when I was in HK three years ago, but my search proved unsuccessful. All I could find was stores that sold bootlegs or stores that only sold Chinese mega-popstar boyband kinds of singers. I wasn't there for very long (only a week), so that may have been part of the problem - not enough time in such a big city.

Thankfully, the Marshmallow Kisses have provided us with a list of all the HK record stores where you can find their records! Go see it here.

You should also look at photos of Marshmallow Kisses' and My Little Airport's cute CD packaging.

Look at me! I posted a playlist. Stay tuned next week for 'it It, live on Gumdrops & Lollipops to celebrate the release of their EP.

Gig guide (remember when I used to do this?)
  1. Friday March 6th: Slam Dunk, 'it It (CD release!), Rooney & the Minglers, Old Gospel (Godspell covers) at Camas Book & Infoshop, 8-11pm
  2. Also that night at 9pm is the 50/50 Joy Division and Talking Heads covers night at Logan's Pub. If you buy a slightly more expensive ticket at show (1), you can get into show (2) as well. Crazyyyyy.

Ryan sez: "What kind of Canadian college radio station doesn't have everything by Sloan?"
That's going to be my own personal fundrive motto. I'll use it alternatingly with the "25 years of dead air" slogan in honour of the station's anniversary.
