I can't take credit for this post. After being away for five days, I'm still fighting to breathe from under the stinking debris of a term paper not yet finished. I also have to get my ass to a work-related craft night (I know, I know, life is hard, isn't it) so I will just tell you--friends, stumblers here through obscure links--what the beef excitedly relayed to me today:
2 shows.
1)
Sunday, November 18The Barmitzvah Brothers,
Two Minute MiraclesLogan's Pub
9pm, doors at 8pm
2)
Saturday, November 24Collapsing Opposites;
Ok, Vancouver, Ok;
Il NasahJamaican Jerk House (607 Pandora)
8pm, doors at 7pm
I've played both the Barmitzvah Bros. and the Collapsing Opposites on my show, and they've been genuine picks, not just required CanCon/ chart release quota-fillers (not that I play much of that anyway). Two Minute Miracles are from London; the brothers are from Guelph. I like this outside-of-Toronto-but-still-from-Ontario thing going on. I also like Ok, Vancouver, Ok--or I feel like I should, because everyone has been making a big fuss about the
Greenbelt Collective recently.
Other stuff:
Tuesday November 13th
Small Sins + Guests
Logan's Pub
8pm
Small Sins aka Thom D'Arcy used to be in that band the Carnations that I for some reason liked but who were pretty much just whiny Sloan ripoffs. When they broke up, Thom started making electronic-y pop. The first few singles I heard on Boompa weren't very good, and I even started as a fan. But apparently the new release is good, and that's coming from dance-masta Key-man (there's a riddle in that name, but I'll let you find it); I wouldn't know, I haven't given it a chance yet.
Reminder:
Friday November 16
